Dream on my dear

It is that time of the year again: it is time to look back before the New Year hits. How was your year 2018? What made you happy? What are you grateful at? What have you learned?

I definitely had a full ride this year! We started the year by moving to Barcelona region. In the end of January we took a car from Paris and drive it to Barcelona. It was a big transition in our life. For me, at first, it wasn’t easy at all. Anyway we made one dream came true: we experienced the life in South of Europe. We met some lovely people that we still stay contact, but at the same time we did experience the reality under the lemon tree. Afterwards I have to say, that this six months period in Alella has shaped me more than any other experience (if motherhood doesn’t account). It gave me so much perspective in life, and in the end I have liberated myself from dreaming of life elsewhere.

Also, big movements in life have changed me not to get attach material things. When we were moving all our stuff from Alella to Bretagne it really opened my eyes: I don’t want to fill our new place with stuff. The cleaning process went through me inside out: We have sold a lot of things and with that money only we have decorated our new place. We wanted our life to be simpler. I wanted to decorate our home more zero waste principles in mind than matching decoration colors. In Finland we have this big thing to decorate our home with design sofas and lamps and matching everything with white, white and white. For inside, my cleaning process has been my every morning meditation ritual. I have left behind many things, cleaned my mind, and I do feel so much better. I have found my path that I am now walking, but at the same time I have accepted that if something doesn’t happen now, it is meant to be like that. I don’t want to force things to happen.

In my professional life the biggest invest was to participate in a yoga and meditation teacher trainings – so far I think they have been the best investments for years! Also, I am thankful all the writing and styling projects that I have had chance to do this year, and all the new people that have entered in my life.

New year 2019 – you can come now! It is time to cut old magazines and make a dream map for the next year. As you might know, this is my New Year’s Eve tradition: to make a dream map. I have been doing this since 2014, and find it very clarifying tradition. I totally recommend start to do this. When you visualize your dreams and write them down, it is most likely that you are actually reaching them, than if you just leave it in your head. Also, it is nice to look at old dream maps and see which dream came true or how the dreams change. For me doing a dream map is really a therapeutic experience in a same way than cleaning a wardrobe – you go through all the old stuff, get rid of them and make room for new ones.

Before you start to do your first dream map, I recommend to do a little meditation where you visualize your dreams and think also, how is the life when you reach your goal. Keep that image in your mind when you start cutting inspiring pictures from magazines. Think also, what meaningful life means to you? What is your ideal everyday life like? What you want to reach in your professional life?

Good vibes for the New Year 2017

Lets dream big!

One of my New Year’s Eve tradition is to make a dream map for the next year. I think it is a good way to start a new year when you do a little check in with yourself and write down your goals in life. Instead of making new year’s promises that you can’t keep, it is more optimistic to create a mind map and dream. Also, when you make the dream map every year, it is nice to look at them after years and see how the dreams and the goals changes. Four years ago I was dreaming about living in Paris, but now I couldn’t see myself and my family to live in a big city like Paris. Instead of I dream about my own garden and finishing my yoga teacher’s training.

I recommend this tradition to you, just cut down some pictures from the old magazines and glue them to a paper and write down what you are dreaming of. It is a fun tradition! Just try it!

So, what are you dreaming of?

What’s up for 2017?

Recipe for my super diet – you should try it too!

Normally the New Year starts with a lot of promises. Maybe you want to get thinner? Start a new diet? Or did you already get a membership at the closest gym? When you look at the magazine stand at your nearest supermarket you’ll see how all the covers of women’s magazines seem to make promises about how you can accomplish a good life or be happier.

As we know in life, there really isn’t any shortcut to happiness. And certainly a fast diet is not an answer to that. Me, I don’t believe in diets: I have been on one and never will. Also, this year, I haven’t made any hard promises or planned any radical changes. Instead, I will continue on the good old path that I started to walk a couple of years ago.

So this is it:

  1. I will continue eating healthy and a 99 % vegetarian based diet. My whole body feels so much better since I became a vegetarian. Also, when I changed my eating habits, I started to learn how to actually cook.
  1. I listen to what my body needs. I won’t go to the gym to do any hardcore training, if I don’t feel like it. I believe that we all experience different periods in life: sometimes you need more active training, sometimes some softer workouts. For me, in this cold wintertime, I need more of relaxing yoga than hard training at the gym. This I will respect. Before, I would force myself to go running ten kilometers three times a week. Not anymore, now that I know that it didn’t do any good to my body.
  1. I will continue to be a more conscious dresser. That means I will shop less than last year, I will mostly buy second hand clothes or make them myself. Also, I will continue shopping in my own wardrobe. The key is being creative in everyday life.

On this channel there will be more talk about sustainability in fashion. This spring I am going to take part in an online course about ethical fashion and I can bet you, that I will share the information here. Furthermore, I have a pile of books waiting about the topic. I know that this talk about sustainability can be harsh, and you might wonder what I am on about, but it is a serious issue that we need to get more people to get engaged in. And I am not trying to be better than others, I am just a beginner learning about this topic.

So I am sure when continuing on this path I will feel better about myself inside out.

So I challenge you to join me in this three-step movement. The only rule is to be merciful to yourself and others – and think about the environment!

How was the year 2016?

At this time of year it is time to make plans for the next one, but before moving forward, I want to look closer at this year.

As you know, the biggest and greatest thing ever was the birth of our baby girl, and of course the busiest job was looking after her. As grateful as I am of being at home with her, it is not always easy to combine work and family. But being the power woman that I am, I need projects of my own and I just can’t be that kind of mother who doesn’t have a life outside the home. (Actually, I have no life outside the home as I am working from home, but you get the point, right?)

Anyway, after looking back at this year, it is kind of wonder how I managed to work, keep this blog updated and do some studying, in addition to taking care of the baby. So I guess I am a living example that it can be done!

As for my personal life this site has been the biggest project that I got myself into. And I am thankful that you have decided to click this site over and over again. I guess it means I am doing something right. I promise you I will keep on writing honestly and straight from the heart wherever I am.

On my mind map for 2016, I found a picture of a sunny beach. Nope, we didn’t go on a relaxing beach holiday this year. Instead, we went to Barcelona a couple of times and spent the summer in Brittany. By the sea, yes, but in unpredictable weather. Next year a long beach holiday is in our mind map for sure, as we haven’t been on honeymoon yet. Also, I am certain that next year is going to be more peaceful and more about traveling as this year was. I have to say for both of us, it hasn’t been such balanced time as that we hoped. A lot of stress for my husband as he is an entrepreneur. Long working hours, making big decisions, then at the end of the year a close one because seriously ill.

As we were walking in an idyllic winter landscape here in Northern Finland we decided (and hoped of course) that the theme for the year 2017 would be well-being on all levels in life. And let’s face it: the whole world needs that after this crazy year, which will be remembered from horrible terrorist actions, the refugee crisis, the strange US presidential elections, and the passing of so many big stars, like David Bowie and Prince are gone. Yes, we definitely need to hope and make actions that the next year will be better and, above all, a peaceful one.

So look back to your year and think about what could be better next year, and what you could do to make yourself and others feel better.

Peace!

And… let’s dance, like Bowie used to sing.
